Anxious Mind
An anxious mind is what many people have developed during these trying times. One of the most asked questions nowadays is: "What do we do if things continue to go downhill?".
News of an increase in the number of suicides that cover both the young and old show us that more people have given up hope and believe that it is better to stop living. Let me share with you something that has helped me see things in the proper perspective and I hope that you too will be benefited from it.
First off, an anxious mind is a dark and confused mind. What causes the mind to be dark and confused? Idolatry. My own definition of idolatry is the practice of not acknowledging God for who He is. The reason why idolatry is dangerous is because it leads us to thinking that other people/ material things/ pleasurable experiences are more important than Him.
"For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities -- His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they know God, but they wouldn't worship Him as God or even give Him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, THEIR MINDS BECAME DARK AND CONFUSED." (Romans 1:20-21)
Secondly, we were created to worship the living God. We are creatures of worship. If we do not know God as all-powerful, all-knowing, everpresent, as well as a personal and loving Father, we will end up worshipping other things. These things may include the trees, the sun, animals, celebrities, or even ourselves.
Lastly, knowing God and giving Him the worship that only He deserves will give us peace and hope. "All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen." (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You." (Isaiah 26:3)
